Compliance with EU RoHS and REACH Directives

The main challenge in complying with RoHS, REACH, or other environmental directives is how to do it in a systematic, cost-effective, and risk-based manner. With electronics companies relying heavily on an outsourced manufacturing model, you need an approach that reasonably distributes responsibility between you, and your ODMs, Contract Manufacturers, and component suppliers. That is where Symphony’s strong background and years of experience in supply chain management and electronics manufacturing can help you achieve product environmental compliance through a pragmatic approach. We know that when it comes to compliance, a no-risk approach is cost-prohibitive, and that a no-cost approach is risky. How you balance the equation between cost and risk, however, requires a blend of expert level knowledge of environmental regulations, electronics manufacturing processes, component chemical composition, business process development, and supply chain management.

Examples of services we can provide:

"We contracted with Symphony to provide an independent, 3rd party critical assessment of our existing environmental compliance system. There are no official RoHS certification programs to ensure compliance with any environmental directives in any country. This makes it very difficult for OEMs to assess if what they are doing is appropriate and cost effective.

Symphony's strengths are deep technical knowledge of Materials Science, manufacturing outsourcing expertise, and thorough understanding of all applicable environmental regulations. Symphony didn’t just give us advice, they actually made things happen. They audited our products and processes to identify the risks and weak spots, and implemented a risk-based Environmental Conformance Assurance System that is both scalable and cost-effective." – David Sangster, Vice President of Hardware Quality, EMC Corporation – Back-up and Recovery Systems Division
